3 Hour Workshop for 6th - 12 graders.
Techniques of Investigative Reporting: this Bootcamp transforms local student teams into small investigative reporting units throughout the city’s schools. Students learn how to identify and vet high-impact projects that could expose serious wrongdoing, focusing on newsgathering and investigative techniques, and ways to tell these stories on multiple platforms. The program is aimed to provide middle & high school students hands-on training that will have them walk away with confidence in their research, and critical thinking skills, in addition to a greater appreciation of journalism and news.
In this 3-day Bootcamp we will cover
News Critique
Students will learn to analyze, evaluate, and communicate the process of creating and interpreting news media. Graduates will be able to critically consume news media in multiple forms.
Newsgathering and Investigative Techniques
Students will learn to perform methods of newsgathering commonly used by journalists like observation, social media monitoring, research and personal interviews.
Law & Ethics
Students will learn about their legal rights and obligations. The course will educate students on how to publish information without violating defamation and privacy laws and how to ethically gather information.
